The Royal Kludge RK61 is an entry-level mechanical board that makes a great budget Fortnite keyboard. It doesn’t have the same brand recognition as the other keyboards on this list, but the mechanical switches and hot-swap sockets make it a much better buy than similarly-priced membranes from big gaming companies.

The RK61 comes with one of three mechanical switches: RK Blue, RK Brown, and RK Red. These are rebranded Outemu switches which are common Cherry MX clones. They get the job done as a budget switch, and their specs are fairly similar to their Cherry counterparts, but they’re nothing to write home about. Some lube will help these switches immensely if you feel like modding.

However, the RK61 is hot-swappable, meaning you can easily replace the factory RK switches. Sadly, you can’t just buy any popular switch and expect them to fit. You’ll have to replace the switches with other Outemu-compatible options such as the Akko CS Matcha Green. This limits the upgradeability of the keyboard, but it’s still nice to have the option to do so on such an affordable keyboard.

Unfortunately, installing even the fastest, most responsive switches won’t compensate for the board’s 12.2 ms of latency. This is an acceptable amount of latency for a budget keyboard, but don’t expect it to be as fast as a mid-range gaming keyboard from Razer or SteelSeries. While low latency is ideal for playing video games like Fortnite, we’re sure you’ll get by fine with the RK61.

The RK61 is surprisingly well-built for a budget keyboard, with a strong plastic shell and a metal base plate to help with rigidity. The keycaps are ABS plastic which will eventually develop shine, but you can easily replace them with a fresh set if this becomes a problem.

Overall, the RK61 is a great budget mechanical keyboard for Fortnite, and it gets even better with some simple DIY upgrades. Swap in a fresh set of keycaps and new (or lubed) switches, and you’ll have a high-quality, personalized board for a fraction of the price of a compact Razer or SteelSeries offering.

Like some Razer mechanical keyboards, the K65 Mini has an 8000 HZ polling rate option for the most responsive gaming experience possible.

In terms of durability, the K65 RGB Mini uses a strong plastic case with a metal base plate to reduce flex. It has double-shot, shine-through PBT keycaps that should endure heavy-duty gaming sessions, so you won’t have to worry about sourcing replacements. There’s also minimal key wobble, even on the larger keys, thanks to the quality stabilizers and Cherry MX switches.

Switching to a compact keyboard can be difficult at first because of the condensed layout. While Fortnite players probably won’t miss the function keys and numpad, the K65 Mini’s 60% layout may be more challenging for productivity tasks or other games. Thankfully, the Fn key gives you access to most other keys on a second layer. If that’s not enough, Corsair’s iCue software provides plenty of customization options and macro support if you need it.

The travel distance is a great midpoint between speed switches and regular ones. They feel snappy and responsive, but with enough travel that you probably won’t trigger them accidentally.

While Logitech’s Lightspeed wireless is no longer the cutting-edge technology it once was, it still manages to keep the G915’s latency at just 1.9 ms. The difference between the connectivity modes is negligible, and we think you may as well stick with wireless here.

Lightspeed also continues to impress when it comes to battery efficiency. The G915 TKL has up to 40 hours of battery life on maximum brightness and a staggering 135 days (assuming eight hours of use per day) with lighting turned off. You can also charge the keyboard while in use, so you won’t face battery-related issues.

Despite being a great wireless keyboard for Fortnite, the G915 TKL is starting to show its age in some respects. For one, Logitech is still using ABS keycaps on the G915. These will shine relatively quickly and are hard to find replacements for. The G915 TKL also still uses a micro USB cable for charging, which is disappointing considering the price.
